OCALA - A 20-year-old Summerfield man accused of molesting a 4-year-old girl was arrested on Monday and charged with sexual battery on a child less than 12.
Late last month, the victim's great-grandmother went to the Ocala Police Department and told officers the 4-year-old said she had been touched by Derrick J. Olson while he was giving the girl a bath, according to police.
The little girl told officers Olson placed his fingers in her private area and made her perform a sex act on him. She said the incidents occurred at night.
The University of Florida Child Protection Team also interviewed the little girl ,and she reportedly told those investigators the same story.
On Monday, Olson went to the Police Department, where Detective Stephanie McQuaig interviewed him. He admitted on occasion staying up with the girl but denied touching her inappropriately.
He was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail.

What kind of restrictions does the state put on registered sex offenders? There's a guy who lives in my town that's on the FDLE sex offender site. I know that his crime was against a minor and yet, I see him standing in the hall every morning at the elementary school with pre-K-1st graders all around him.
Don't ask if they know, in this little Peyton Place, everyone knows all the gossip about everyone and everything.

Let me play Devil's advocate for a minute. Just keep in mind a pedophile is scum no two ways about that. But, From what I read in the story all that was released was what a 4yr said. There was no mention of any cooberating evidence of a physical nature, no other witness and no confession. Lacking anything other that what a 4yr old says I fail to see how a person could be arrested let alone convicted of anything. A 4yr old can not give sworn testimony and even an interview for validation would not be evidence of anything other than an interviewer's opinion. Once again I make this comment only on what was printed in the story and pedophiles are indeed hell bound.

I understand the point you are TRYING to make, BUT are you saying we shouldn't believe our children because they are too young? Cause that is what it sounds like to me. I maybe wrong how I am reading it. I am sure they had an exam done on the child. My question is why was this man (scum) giving her a bath? People need to take more responsiblity for their stupid choices, like letting this guy bath this little girl. In todays age you can't trust ANYONE.
