Hello, My family and I are moving into the Ocala are in a couple of weeks and looking for a house, we currently live in Kissimmee ( city water ). I have seen many Houses in the area that have well water. Just wondering what its like in ocala? Are there many cases of contamination or frequentcy? I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old so it does concern me with small children. Younger I remember my friend had well water and it has an odor of eggs. Thank you in advance!

There is city water in the city limits of Ocala, it is the outlying areas that have well water. I moved to a place 6 months ago that is well.  We don't drink it, I have one of those filter pitchers and it works great!!.

It depends on the area in which you move.  I live on the outskirts of Dunnellon and our well water is fine...no smell, no yellow color or anything like that.  However, in one case my mom has crystal clear good well water wherein her next door neighbor's has a smell, is yellow, etc.  I honestly believe it depends on how deep the well is too. I would definitely suggest checking it out prior to moving in, especially with little kids.

We had the stinky water to begin with. I really would prefer a different well or city water but some with wells have no problems:)

We live in Belleview and are on well water, we have no issues with our water. When we bought the house it had a all house filter right next to the well, it only filters out the minerals like iron. My sister lives outside of Dunnellon and has perfectly clear and fresh water. It really does depend on where in the county you live. Our daughter lives in Belleview and is on city water, her bills are through the roof.

I have well water on Ocala/Belleview line and I have no problems with it.  We drink it right out of the tap with no issues.

Thank you Ladies! Now is their a huge diefference in bills compared to city water to well? I see Theresa made a comment that her daughters water bill is very high.

there is no "bill" per say however, there is the maintence of the system, like salt, filters, etc. that varies depending on where you go to get the stuff. Also if you lose power you lose water to your house as well. System runs on electricity unlike city water. How ofter you change your salt (if its a salt system), filter, and whatnot depends on the system. We use to change ours every 4-6wks other people go longer but my other half is more anal than most people. I mean we change the A/C filter every 2 wks.

Whether it is good or bad to drink depends on the system and the well itself. we had an additional filter on the inside faucet as well as the big one outside. Same goes for the smell. Our inside water was good but we had a seperate system for the outside and it had the rotten egg smell to it. Basically there are a lot of variables to well systems.
