My kids will not be returning to their school this week. I am keeping them home and starting homeschooling with them. They are 5,6,9. I am looking for some other homeschool Mommas for playdates/fieldtrips, conversation with an adult!!! :) Are there any homeschoolers on here?

I am homeschooling my 14 yo daughter. She is autistic, but she does very well with homeschooling. Would love to join you on fieldtrips or just have a conversation.
What type of program was you trying with her? We are actually enrolled through an umbrella school and we choose our own curriculum. We do not report to the school system here in Marion County. We have to send our yearly reports directly to our umbrella school with samples of her work. I would be glad to help any way I can. Just let me know. You can send me a private e-mail to drimas@cfl.rr.com.

Permalink Reply by Nicole on December 30, 2012 at 8:50pm I would love to have a park day or something. Fridays are the best day for me, I still work FT and am off Wed-Sat.
Permalink Reply by Jen Ryan on December 31, 2012 at 7:58am Sounds great! We can set up a park day if you like. I am also in a small homeschool group and we are trying to get up a program at the library once a month or once a week if people are interested. WE could do group activities like crafts and such to get the kids out/have adult time as well :) I think it would be a blast! when are you guys up for? I am ready whenever you guys are. I work from home and we have a pretty open schedule most weeks. :)

I just sent an email to Rhonda Rimas asking about the program she uses. I would love to get together with other moms. I am so scared and worried about the schools now. What program do you use Jen?
Jen Ryan said:I am homeschooling my son;) he's 6 1/2 so we would love to hang out too. There's a lot Going on actualy for homeschoolers:) if you guys would like we can get a group together one day at the park. Also blessed mom you could join and talk with the if us who have been doig it awhile if you like:) it's always encouraging to meet with those who actually do it:)
I homeschool my 6 1/2 yr old daughter. I also have a 4 yr old son. We have chosen a Bible based curriculum, My Father's World. I would love to try to get together sometime.
While I do think that you should have the choice to homeschool your kids if you want to I also hope that those that do actually have the know how on how to. I have seen and talked to people that homeschool and looked into it myself and some of the programs they have out there are scary. Esspecially some of the religious based ones. I honestly can say it scares me to know that there are people in the world that are teaching kids some of this crap or are teaching them period because they have no business doing so. I looked into one that actually taught that blacks came from monkeys, etc. It is sad that so many homeschool out of fear of their kids learning something they may not like. The world has always and will always be a dangerous place yet hiding kids from reality does not teach them how to function in society. I can fully see why some people choose this route and there are some families that do a wonderful jo b at it but for those looking into it please be cautious as to dwhat you decide to use to teach them and make sure you are actually able to do this. It is not as easy as it looks or seems.
Permalink Reply by Jen Ryan on January 2, 2013 at 12:33pm Is anybody up for the park this Friday? If so let me know and we can choose a time and which park to go to. I am heading to the library today to start the program for us :) Hope to see you guys soon! This park day would also be great for you if you are considering it. You can talk with those who are already homeschooling or are in the process of going that route :)
Permalink Reply by Jen Ryan on January 2, 2013 at 12:38pm You teach your child from the moment they enter this world ;) There are some curriculum's I have questioned myself but most of the ones there now give you everything and more to teach your child. They have great online programs and even the public schools can give you a full free curriculum to do online. While some people choose to do a very relaxed homeschool approach others do not and do teach them the skills they need to make it. It saddens me that teens coming out of schools can not balance a checkbook, read a clock that is not digital, or know other skills they need everyday. Some people do go slightly off the normal route for homeschooling but others stick with what your children get everyday. :) As for that curriculum I would question it severely because no one should teach that...
