My kids will not be returning to their school this week. I am keeping them home and starting homeschooling with them. They are 5,6,9. I am looking for some other homeschool Mommas for playdates/fieldtrips, conversation with an adult!!! :) Are there any homeschoolers on here?

Is anybody up for the park this Friday? If so let me know and we can choose a time and which park to go to. I am heading to the library today to start the program for us :) Hope to see you guys soon! This park day would also be great for you if you are considering it. You can talk with those who are already homeschooling or are in the process of going that route :)
Too bad your encounter with homeschooling is negative. Many of my friends homeschooled their children and they are some of the brightest young adults around!! And NOT all curriculum teaches blacks come from monkeys and things like that. And just b/c one has purchased a curriculum does not mean they have to teach solely and exclusively from that.
Yes, I did buy a Christian bible based curriculum, but trust me, if I find anything that we don't agree upon (say, how something is translated) I will choose to omit that part simply cause I can.
Parents teach their children to everything from birth to around age 5. Then at the age of 5, why is a parent not "qualified" to further educate THEIR own child, and the children need to be sent to someone that has a degree? (No offense to school teachers, of which I also have many friends.) Doesn't a mom (or dad) know the best for their own children? I have found the beauty of homeschool is flexibility of tailoring it to fit your child. I'm sure I will not teach my son the same as I have my daughter. They are completely different!
Please don't try to negatively sway a parent away from homeschooling. It is as easy as you (the parent) makes it. Anyone who tries, can!

While I do think that you should have the choice to homeschool your kids if you want to I also hope that those that do actually have the know how on how to. I have seen and talked to people that homeschool and looked into it myself and some of the programs they have out there are scary. Esspecially some of the religious based ones. I honestly can say it scares me to know that there are people in the world that are teaching kids some of this crap or are teaching them period because they have no business doing so. I looked into one that actually taught that blacks came from monkeys, etc. It is sad that so many homeschool out of fear of their kids learning something they may not like. The world has always and will always be a dangerous place yet hiding kids from reality does not teach them how to function in society. I can fully see why some people choose this route and there are some families that do a wonderful jo b at it but for those looking into it please be cautious as to dwhat you decide to use to teach them and make sure you are actually able to do this. It is not as easy as it looks or seems.
If you read the whole thing I said that some do extreme well at it. However, I have seen people that should not have homeschooled their kids or have kids for that matter. My point is for people to do their research before venturing into it since some people think it is easy and to make sure you are able to do so. IE have the time, patience, and know how. In no way did I put down people that were thinking of doing it. But it does concern me that so many people that shouldn't be homeschooling are doing so or claim to be doing so. honestly, if you did not get past the 9th grade do you really think you have the abilty to teach 12th grade level stuff??? Yes, there are a few that can but that is not the norm. And yes, I have met a few that have no business teaching their kids anything

Hi again Rhonda, I added you as a friend. I see your oldest is autistic. My brother who is 27 has autism and lives in a group home in Mt. Dora. I am graduating this year as an ESE teacher and I want to have an autistic classroom. Looks like we have lots in common. I am homeschooling my oldest who is almost 12 and we are moving to Micanopy next week. Two of my four daughters go to a school in town in Ocala so I will still be in Ocala daily for the rest of this year at least. Trying to get them in a Charter school in Micanopy. I may end up homeschooling all of them once I finish my degree. Still debating.
Anyway I added you as a friend so we can chat. My email is jtcllia@aol.com! Looking forward to hearing from u soon!
