Okay... so now that the surgery is over we are trying to get back into a routine. :) He is still having trouble sleeping. I am wondering if it is because for about a month he was up multiple times, more often than not, with pain or nerves etc. So last night we woke up at 2:10. 2:15, 3:00 and 5:30. the last time he got in the bed with us and went back to sleep. So I could use some tips on how to get him back into a normal sleep pattern. Any body got any ideas? I know there are some natural herbs and things that are safe for children but what do you think? Have you used them? Have you had any success? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Melatonin!  It is sold in chewable tablets.  Worked great for my 6 year old! Good luck!~

Thanks guys! I'm not sure what I did yesterday but he slept straight thru until 6:30 :) I did get some baby soap that's the nighttime routine soap. We needed it to clean his incision site so I chose the night time and just had him use that all over ;) He slept like a baby! So glad... I will keep that in mind if this doesn't continue to be his pattern LOL

He might have just been off because of the surgery. Maybe the incision bothers him at night and thats what wakes him up. The only thing i can suggest that we do is tire him out, fill him up with food ( no sugary stuff) before bath and let him play a good amount in the bath and then either read or watch a few short videos via cell phone right at bed time :) i let row watch about 10 mins of kipper or caillou while i rock him. All this usually works and he sleeps right through till i have to wake him up for school. But of course just like with any kid they have their off nights. I dont believe in giving sleep meds, even if it is a vitmin or herbal stuff. I get really paranoid over that stuff. I had a scary experience with unisom when i was younger and i just get really weird about anything that is supposed to make u relaxed or sleepy... but as kids its kinda one of those things that it happens every now and then. Sometimes they get off their normal routine but it doesnt last long.. thats what i tell myself anyways haha :) good luck.

Melatonin does help with sleep..just be careful...it gives me CRAZY dreams. It does help me to fall asleep...Just a heads up!

Yeah I don't really want to give him anything. I am thinking it's been nerves and things and just getting him back into routine. The problem is he has been doing this for probably 4 weeks. 2 of those weeks before the surgery. So I think that was the issue was the pain from the hernia and then his nerves knowing he was going to a surgeon. I am just hoping that he gets back into his routine. The night before last was good then last night he was up again at 3 and 3:45. So it's a hit or miss.. LOL Hopefully things get normal soon ;)
