So we were at the mall yesterday so Rowan could see the easter bunny. I have to say i was glad to see all the things for kids to do there. They have two areas that have those coin operated rides, a bungee jump outside of JCPennys, a train ride throughout the mall and now i noticed they have this weird motion ride next to the easter bunny. It's a space mobile like contraption that has seats with seatbelts inside. It's $4.00 a person to ride (looks like five rows of four seats) and they have different interactive "movies" to ride too. Like there is one that is a helicopter ride over hawaii and i think it might be a 3-D type deal but it's like you're actually in the helicopter. This thing at one point was up off the ground and moving around like CRAZY! I'm thinking it was the roller coaster option. I wanted to go on it but we had Row with us and he's too young. Has anyone been on this thing yet?? I seen really quick why the need for seatbelts... That thing would make you motion sick quick haha. But a GREAT idea for the mall! I hope it stays around for awhile.

I have over the years sent multiple e-mails trying to get them to add a playground where all those lame kiosks are (where the horse fountain used to be). Because it would be a great break spot for kids and parents. Plus it's right next to the food court. I think a playground would be a win win situation. But.. have been told it's not possible because of safety risks and then they’d have to have someone keep it clean etc... all bogus excuses if you ask me... but oh well... If we had a playground i'd go there more often, which is the point i was trying to make to them but... keep hitting a wall. ggrrr :-)

I agree, I would go more often if they had a playground as well. There is a playground in the Florida Mall which is nice.

I agree. Where do we send emails to? I would love for something like that to be there. We go to Gainesville JUST because of the playground... That is a gold mine actually because so many people are looking for something for their children to do when it is hot and nasty outside. Get the parents in for the children's attraction and they are more likely to buy things ;)

I personally hate the playpits in the malls. In Palm Beach County they opened this beautiful two-story mall not to far from my old house. My thought was great, heaven, excited etc, etc....Then the big day its opens and everyone was commentin g on how nice it was etc then after a few days and the word got out you heard ear piercing screams half to the other end of the mall. But what they are telling you is true they are extreme safety risks, I knew several people that worked in that mall and I was there regularly and on a almost daily basis someone was getting hurt bumps, bruises, and more than a few trips to the ER. Because people are suppose to supervise their kids which most do with the little ones but then you have the older kids that go there and are not supervised. Oh, yeah and cleaning yeah, they use to do it only once a day so you can imagine the germs going around that place among other things. they now have to pay security just to babysit this place because of so many kids getting hurt and people trying to sue. Not sure how many were successful in any large amounts but I know a few that got their medical bills covered. And they have to pay extra people to clean that stupid pit every few hours to reduce the crap that is in there. And all it attracts is people with kids it does not bring more omney into the mall since 99% of the ones that use it go straight through JC Penny's and let their kids play then leave. So for the most part it brings in no extra income for the business in there that are trying to do just that run a business not listen to screaming kids all day. Playgrounds ar for the out of doors not inside a mall where most people are trying to shop. My kids know not to even ask about going in there to play they know we are there for one thing and one thing only and that is to shop. They also know not to ask at any resturant they are for eating. If my kids want to play they go outside. Yes, I know its Florida I was born and raised here I know how hot it can get and I survived as did my parents and grandparents and great-grandparents etc all of which were born and raised in south floirida.

So I fully agree with the response from the mall its a bigger pain than it is worth. That is one of the few things I like about the Paddock mall is that I don't have to hear ear piercing screams from kids playing. I know that some people think these are great ideas but there are just as many of us that can't stand the things.

i guess i should add it wasn't the mall that responded, it was one of the secuirty guards that i know...

and yes i agree that ok, some people might not like them BUT... the majority of the world is made up of people who have children that have to take them shopping with them. WE are the ones that want places like this :-) I am not going to push my child off on a babysitter just so i can go shopping. I'll take him with me. It's MY resposibility to watch him while he's playing. It must not be too much of an issue since all the other malls in florida have them in there. We just have crappy parents who use the mall as a baby sitting facility and that is most likely what would stop them from putting one in. AND.. one of the reasons why the horse fountain was taken out is because these dumb a$$ parents let their kids play in the water! Funny how it all comes down to parents not watching their kids ruining it for everyone else isn't it?? and i's like to think that i am not too old to where i can't think at a kids level in how wouldn't it be much nicer for them when we drag them all over with us if just for a few mins they can get a break and relax and have fun instead of being made to follow us all over the store and be bored out of their minds? I remember feeling that way when i was a kid... So i'd like to think that since im forcing my son to stay at my side and watch me shop, the least i could do is let him play a few mins in between... :-)

Yes, I realize this as I Have THREE kids. My friends all have kids and WE ALL hate the things. And I still can't stand the things nor can my friends. Like I said for me malls are for shopping. I tell my kids that we will go do whatever is it after we are done shopping. They get to pick activity if they behave they get to do it. And also my oldest quit asking on her own after watching some kid pee in the darn thing a few years back. and no not every mall in floirda has them. Just most of them. lol  And while yes, you may be one of the few that actually sit and watch your child pay attention one day to the amount of kids that are not being watched next time you go to a mall that has one of those. The majority are NOT supervised and run amock. My point is that they are germ filled nasty disgusting places and it is rare for me to say that seeing how my kids LOVE the woods and mud and there are just as many parents that can't stand the places as there are that like them. Like I said before though my kids play outside they canrun scream and yell all they want. They can get as dirty as they want and the mall is for shopping :)

I see both sides but I for one would love to have some place to take him at times when the weather is awful and we are just tired of doing the same thing over and over. I don't like the germ filled places and I do think there has to be a way to make it fun and safe. I wish something like Jumping Joey's or some place would come in. They are taking all the kids areas out of Ocala and there are SO many kids here. Why not do something like have it in one of the shopping spaces... There are so many unused spaces and I for one would go to the mall more if there was something like that there. We play outside and we go exploring but it would be nice for a change to have something that he could climb on and have a blast with...

exactly. Their gonna get germs anywhere, that why i always carry wipes with me or antibactrial stuff.. we took him to the Burger King playground a few weekends ago and he LOVED it. It was his first time on anything like that. He was a little iffy at first but once another boy his size was all over it, he followed him and started playing. I think it would be up to the parents to keep an eye on their kids while they are in there and like most places like that, have signs up warning parents that children must be watched and go over the safety issue, that the mall is not liable for parents letting their kids play on it. Those signs are around everywhere! But what about getting those soft foam mats like at burger king and the park on baseline.. that would be helpfull. And yeah i can see that a mall is a place to shop.. BUT it is also a hang out place. It has been for longer then i've been alive. It's not just a place to shop. You know how many people walk that place each morning before the stores open? They get in groups and walk as excersize.. people also go there just to eat lunch and don't shop. So no, it's not just a place to shop. It's a place to do anything. And if it was a place to just shop, why are there all these activities for kids to do there? There's a bungee jump, coin operated rides in two parts of the mall, there's a train, there's a motion ride, the easter bunny, santa clause etc...They are there because of the same reasons i mentioned. To give kids something to do. and to give them a break from just shop shop shopping which gets daunting after awhile when you have a toddler or other aged kid in tow. I will tell you, that i NEVER go to the mall anymore. My husband HATES it there. And i can't ever go alone, i always have Row with me. If we had a place for Row to play, the hubby can stay with him and i could get what i need. And we would all be happy. As far as the cleaning goes.. once or twice a day would be ok. The playgrounds outside NEVER get whiped down... they get rained on.. that's about it. So if anything these indoor ones would be a lot cleaner then the outside ones. So their both great in their own right. Both are great to play on wether your in side or out. We can't be outside ALL day everyday, sometimes you have to go into a store or a building... these things are nice to have available.

I agree with the mall is for shopping thing,  So is the grocery store for that matter.  (Want a playground in Publix too?)  If you HAVE to take them shopping and they are too young to entertain themselves, then you need more support in your life.

I raised children and didn't feel the need to ALWAYS have the rest of the world have to deal with them as babies or toddlers.  I never took them to the movies as babies, (One of the rudest thing anyone can do), and as toddlers, if they couldn't behave, well they sure as heck weren't going to the mall or anywhere else with me.

Yes, FL is ridiculously hot, too hot for small children, that's what Chuck E Cheese is for.  It is not the mall's responsibility to entertain your children.

As far as outside playgrounds go that don't get wiped down, I grew up up north, so I was able to go outside way more than the kids down here can.  I never caught anything except for a cold once in a while and I even got dirty sometimes, gasp!.

hahhaha you got me there!

seriously??? i need more support?????? uh no... I choose to have my son and I choose to care for him and not pawn him off on other people just to go shopping. I have too many babysitter choices to count in my family alone, but it's not their job to watch my son, it's mine.. or else why have him???? The only time he is away from me is when i work or my husband and i go out to dinner once every few months. We didn't want everyone else caring for him. I think it's stupid to have someone watch your kid just to get a little alone time... you want alone time... don't have kids. But that's my own personal opinion.

as far as misbehaving.. maybe you might not of read my post... the goal was to have a timeout spot for them to jsut play and be kids, and not be dragged along to boring stores. If you don't like being around kids in the mall, store etc... then i suggest you stay home haha cause they are EVERYWHERE... so there should be SOME things for them to do, and thus.. will add more shoppers. And that was the whole point of the post.

and chuckie cheese... r u serious????!!! you ever been in one of those places?? the flipping kids will knock you over and not even look back! The worst kinds of people seem to always be there... and let their so not behaved kids play there. I went there for my nephews b-day party when my son was only 3 months old. i was holding him. Some kid barreled into me knocking me almost completely over and just kept running, their parents just kept walking past me.. didn't even acknowledge that there kid just about knocked me over.. holding my infant. So yeah... chuck e cheese is the WORST place to be. And me and my husband decided we will never spend our money there... All i said was it would be a nice to have a playground in the mall. The SAME mall that allows flipping teenager to run around causing issues. The same mall that has other family oriented activity's. I don't think a playground is asking the world.. good grief.

and like i said before, the mall is not just for shopping anymore... that stopped years and years ago. It's now an open facility to shop, exercise, eat, be entertained i.e. all the stuff to do in there including a new kid and ADULT ride. So... it's not just to go buy stuff, it has other stuff too. People go there to just eat sometimes and don't "shop".

We go to the Oaks Malls in Gainesville in order to play at the play place in the mall. In ALL the times I've been there it have never looked dirty, most of the kids follow the rules, it seems most of the parents watch their kids and it honestly doesn't seem much louder than the regular mall noise. My kids LOVE it.  Then, because we're there, I shop at Gymboree, The Children's Place, Buid A Bear AND we eat lunch at the kid sized tables. I wouldn't even go to the mall if it wasn't for the place place! Are you going to tell me that listening to the train throughout the mall & almost getting run down by it is less annoying than a little play area at one end of the mall? As for "malls being for ONLY shopping and restaurants being for ONLY eatting", it is the malls and restaurants that "target" the kids so their parents spend more money. That's why they have play places, kids' nights and pictures with the Easter Bunny. It's our choice as parents to allow our kid's to participate in the activities or not.  Just because I don't want to pay $25. for a picture with the Easter Bunny does not make me say "They should not have an Easter Bunny because there are several people how don't want their picture taken with him and the kids that cry when they see him really bug me."  I think everyone should be more tolerant of people's views on things and not say they should or should not exist just because you choose not to use them.  I DO agree if they do get a play area it NEEDS to be monitered AND clean so it would be the best experience for both the shoppers who choose to use it AND the shoppers who do not.
