It's sad - but stories like this make me incredibly grateful for the health of my two children and make me want to help those who aren't as lucky as we've been. As St. Jude's commercials say "Give thanks to the healthy kids in your life and give to those who are not."
Raising money for a service dog for a smart 12 year old boy with cerebral palsy
Can you spare $1.00 to help us meet our goal?
Austin is a smart and very funny 12 year old boy with many challenges. He came into this world nine weeks early weighing 3lbs 7oz. As a result of his early arrival, Austin now has cerebral palsy and visual impairments. For several years his doctors and therapists have recommended a service dog for Austin to help make his quality of life better. We are trying to raise a portion of the money it will take to have a special service dog specifically trained for his needs. Austin is a kind and compassionate child with a heart of gold. He struggles with daily activities and relies on his wheelchair to get around. His whole life he has received physical, occupational and speech therapy to help him reach his highest potential. These services have helped him come a long way but as he gets older it is hard for him to always have to rely on others to do so much for him. A service dog would help Austin achieve more independence and would help him greatly lift his spirits. A service dog would allow Austin to open doors, get in and out of his wheelchair by himself, pick up objects that are out of his reach and maneuver safely in his wheelchair with the assistance of his service dog. Middle school has been a hard transition for him as many of the kids who use to take time to talk and play with him are off doing their own things that Austin cant do. He often feels left out and a service dog can help open the door for more communication and help Austin feel less isolated. Austin is a very bright child with many physical limitations. Thinking about his future, a service dog can give Austin an opportunity to go to college and possibly even live in an assisted living home without needing an aid by his side at all times. It would open his social world and help him create and maintain friendships which is very important to his growth and development. Any donation to help Austin obtain a service dog of his own would be a great blessing to our family. No amount is too little. Even if you are not able to donate to Paws for Austin, if you could share his story together we can reach our goal and get Austin the service dog he deserves. Thank you for reading.
