Have you started buying your school supplies yet? I know some wait till the last minute while others have theirs already. What do you do when it comes to buying school supplies, shop early or procrastinate?

Since I teach young children I buy supplies on sale ..usually 20 of everything. Students often don't have any supplies. We also run out in the middle of the year and things are full price then. Buy things only on sale.

I am done buying school supplies. I do not wait for the tax free day as the stores seem to increase their prices that day. Staples had a sale where some items like glue, pencils, etc., were only one cent. You could buy a limit of 2. Walmart has sales going on now. I know where my kids go to school their supply list barely changes from year to year. Next week is uniforms, shoes, etc. and I am ready to go!

I don't do much last minute. I pick them up early at my leisure.

That is how I roll! Lol

I have started buying here and there.  For me, it's about a $300 total, including his uniforms.  As a single mom, it's hard to buy it all at once so I stretch it out as much as possible.  :)

I find it really hard to buy all the supplies before, simply because the schools my children go to do not give out supply lists until orientation ( elementary) or the first few days of school (middle school), now I do stock up on basics when they are on sale ( paper, pencils, crayons...... the stuff that is needed every year reguardless). What kills me though is those poly folders most teachers request certain colors, and I noticed that the wal-mart on S.S.Blvd only had like purple, red, and green, now that was a week ago they may even be sold out by now, and by the time I got my middle schoolers complete list last year I had to wait till about Dec. before they were back in stock ( I went EVERYWHERE, even on-line), I feel since the folders are in such high demand the stores should have ALOT more in stock for the back to school sales.

Folders are the WORST! Wish the schools would realize this!

I am just no trying to get my daughter registered for school, first kid equals inexperienced parent. I know she will be going to Greenway if and when I can get her registered. So I was wondering if anyone had school supply tips for kindergarten there? I was told by the secretary that she wouldn't get a supply list till her orientation day- this is all Greek to me lol. Oh, and does anyone know what the heck they want for "mortgage agreement" proof? I've tried calling several times and can't get an answer :-(

That could be like a lease agreement or maybe if you own your home the contract or something of that sort. For us when I put him in the Virtual School that was what I had to send in. They are basically wanting to verify your address pretty much, I think... :) LOL I know that Walmart has a lot of school supply lists so maybe you could check there to see if they have your schools list yet.

HMM I don't know either lol. We own our home (pay mortgage every month) so we can print out that bill but as far as anything else I'm not sure how to go about it since our bank doesn't have a local branch. I was told the school wouldn't give out a supply list until she was registered and had an orientation day....so does that mean I literally have to wait till her first day of school to buy supplies? I'm SO confused aagggh. This is nothing like registering for school back home in IL lol.

You should have a copy of your mortage with you or in a safe deposit somewhere. All they need is a copy of some of saying that you are on the deed etc.

Personally I never go by the school list really. I buy the things that I know they will need. 5 different types of ziplock bags nope don't get those, 5 rolls of paper towels, 3 boxes of kleenex, 10 hand sanitizers, 2 boxes dry erase markers, etc nope don't buy any of those.  I strickly buy what my kid needs and have told more than one teacher than her supplies are hers and not to be mixed in with the rest of the class for those who's parents don't feel like buying crayons etc. I will send a box of kleenex for my daughter but not enough to share with the rest of the class. The school should be supplying chalk and dry erase markers for the classroom not me as well as paper towels. Schools have gotten to be rediculous with some of the things they want the kids to have. Or should I say the things they want you to supply for the school. I drop off supplies at places to help those kids who can't get what they need so I put my foot down to my kids having to share her stuff that I pay for with the rest of the class. Then before Christmas I'm having to go and buy her more supplies because the teacher/school gave her stuff to others.
