Sesame Street Tackles Divorce

The show has been on television for over 40 years and has covered all sorts of topics except for the topic of divorce. They have now posted an episode online that shares Abbey Cadabbie's parents are divorced. She talks about her feelings and how she has two houses... Some are thinking it's been a long time coming while others are not as pleased. What do you think?

it was a great idea when Mr. Rogers covered it years ago... Seseme Street is finally getting with the times :-)   It's something that happens every single day and kids all over the world go through it, so it shouldn't be a taboo subject anymore.

I think it's a GREAT idea. With divorce a lot of times a child's self esteem decreases due to the disruption, embarrassment, etc. kids need to know that they are not the only ones experiencing the uncomfortable feelings that divorce brings. They don't understand why it's happening. We talk about kids being desensitized to violence by watching and playing violent movies and games...well....divorce today is inevitable, not that we want to send the impression to our kids that its okay but sometimes you grow apart and it's best. The more kids realize that it's okay to go through these situations and eventually it will be okay and safe again, the more our children will understand and be able to cope with those emotions.....unfortunately.
