So last year there was a big week throughout most homes that was screen-free week. We honestly didn't participate? Why ? Well mostly because all of my work is done on the computer screen. My son plays educational games and we add educational videos to our school. Let's face it. Sometimes a stranger can explain something better than mommy can and it helps to click :) LOL
But I do see a huge need for reducing screen time, at least here anyway. I am going to get a schedule and see how it goes. My biggest hiccup besides my job? Daddy... It's hard to tell a grown man to turn off the tv sometimes after they have had a long day at work ;)
So how do you limit screen time in your home? What do you do to fill up your time?

We usually watch the news in the morning and it get's turned off after hubby heads to work. It does not get turned back on until I pick up my granddaughter at 4 because she likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We watch the evening news and a few primetime programs. Hubby is usually in bed by 8 . The TV is on mostly on weekends for the sports, I pass my time by riding my bike or going for walks. I have cancelled my facebook page and spend as little time as possible on the computer, I am trying to go cold turkey on any internet stuff. I have been slowly losing interest on being online or watching TV. I like books so I am going to try to find some good books and spend more time in my garden. My daughter and her husband work all day and spend most of their weekends doing stuff around their house so they cancelled their cable and just go to HULU for their entertainment.
we're not home during the day, but when we get home it's straight outside for playtime until it gets dark, or close to it. Then while i'm making dinner or right before bath time he gets to watch tv a little, about 30 mins. and always either Caillou, Poppy Cat, or Thomas the Train. On the weekends he watches morning cartoons before we got outside or go out for errands and then a little at night. We are usually gone or outside on the weekends so not much tv time :-) And i only get about 30 mins at night before my bed time if i'm lucky. Hubby works at home on the computer so he's always on that, not much of a tv watcher :-)
I think a little tv, computer etc is fine. It's using it as a constant babysitter or a pacifier instead of making them go outside that's not fine...imo :-)
Permalink Reply by Jen Ryan on February 25, 2013 at 3:11pm I agree :) I don't like it when it's on all the time when other things could be done :) LOL I'm just ready for his stitches to heal up so we can take advantage of the pretty days we were having. Still on now PE for another week so I'm hoping that week goes by kind of fast ;) LOL An active 6 year old boy does not like being told he can't go play much lol
