Teacher caught having sex with HER student.....but it's only partially illegal?

Lauren Redfern was a P.E. teacher at Basal High School.  She and her student were caught having sex in the teacher's restroom.  Another staff member knocked on the door and when he realized the student was in the teacher's area administration investigated and both the teacher and student admitted the relationship.  The boy says he has fallen in love with his teacher.

The student was actually 18 at the time and Colorado law states that even a 17 year old can have sex with someone of age.  The law was only broken in this case because she was the teacher and holds a posiion of trust and authority over the student.

The affair seems to have lasted over a four month period and began when the boy came to her house for help with his homework.  I would love to know why and how he knew where she lived.  I can't imagine that most teachers gives their students their address?

Do you think this woman should be charged as a pedophile as well as sexual assault by a person of trust?

Any sexual relationships between a student and a teacher, under any circumstance, should be illegal and not tolerated.  We are loosing grip on right and wrong when we keep allowing all of these loopholes in our own moral.

It is not just someone it is his teacher! It is school! There needs to be a strict decorum when dealing with these kinds of relationships. Teachers are in school to TEACH not screw our kids! Who is the adult here! Does anyone have anymore sense in this world!? She should not be allowed to teach ever again.

As if the relationship wasn't wrong enough... they had to have sex at the school too? Really?! She definitely should be fired & held accountable. She couldn't wait until he turned 18 as the "responsible" adult?!!

This teacher was wrong. Do you believe the story about going to her home for the PE teacher to help with a paper? No. Not that she couldn't but lets be real. Kids get tutoring at school or public place. Does anyone have an event in their life where  a teacher made a positive difference?

And this is when life gets interesting. If he was 18 then I say who cares since she was 25 as long as they weren't doing anything on school property.  it gets to be a bit tricky when high school teachers are sometimes only a few yrs older than the students. I remember when I was in high school that a friend of mine was dating my English teacher. He was 19 almost 20 and she (my teacher) was 21. Yeah life was interesting but no one ever got in trouble for it and it was known. That could be because he was not in any of her classes and was a senior where as she taught 11th grade english. They never acted like it while at school but boy did that make for and interestesd Friday night party. She never purchased alcohol nor would she drink if other were because she didn't want to be held resposible for it.

Now as for people knowing where teachers live I knew where several of my teachers lived over the years and had been to there house several times. Sometimes for help with something others just to visit and some were firends of mine parents or relatives. I also remember teachers giving us rides home or to work esspecially if it was raining before we got cars. heck for that matter I know where a couple of my oldest daughters teachers live now and would not get uopset if one offered her a ride home if I couldn't get to her. Unfortunately a few bad ones make life so darn difficult for the good.

ACtually I do. I have a couple teachers that stand out in my mind. One teacher that was my 5th grade teacher. She was there for me during a very difficult time when my grandmother was very sick and ended up passing away. She was one of my favorite teachers and still is to this day. :) I do think there are teachers out there that make positive differences and it is a shame we don't hear more about them.

Thanks for the positive remark.

Did she abuse her position as a teacher and use horrible judgement?  Yes.  Is she a pedophile and should she be charged as so?  No.  By definition a pedophile is characterized by "a primary or exclusive sexual interest in prepubescent children"...this "kid" was 18 years old!  It doesn't make her actions acceptable, and by all means she should face the consequences that this relationship will have on her career, but I highly doubt she is a child molester, nor should she be charged or labeled as one.

it always surprises me that these people do this stuff at the school. Maybe the thrill of getting caught is there.. i dunno. She is wrong and should be fired. But given his age, that's about it. She's not a pedifile by any means.. she's just an idiot.

LOL :)
