The IRS stopped the RAL Loans in which you get your money back quick. Too much fraud. We have always done our taxes at HR Block. However, no matter where you go, you have to wait at least 10-14 days for a rapid refund and it's not cool.

really?  when did they stop that?

I've always used the free tax software online.  I like taxact.com.  It walks you through everything and is really simple and easy to use.  I like doing it myself b/c I don't want to pay someone to do it for me and also I am a control freak and want to make sure I get every possible credit and deduction I qualify for!!

Last year we went to HR BLock and said we wanted the RAL where you get back so much right then and then in 10-14 days we would get the rest. They told us the IRS stopped those types of loans. They will approve the loans where you get it back in 10-14 days though. People were claiming kids that weren't theirs and all sorts of fraud had been going on for years. I thought it was just HR Block so I started calling around and sure enough those loans are no more.

HR Block makes sure you do get every dime you are entitled to. There were things on there that brought us more money and without their help we would have never known. Be nice to get our W-2 this year though. They wait until the last minute.

how much does HR block charge??

I think it depends on how many forms you have to enter in. Also you can see if they can deduct the charges of the preparation from the money you are getting back. That is what we do every year. I think you do have to have the money direct deposited to take advantage of that though( not sure). I started doing them myself when we moved here and it hasn't been too bad. If you are wanting to get it done professionally definitely check into them taking the fees out of the money you get back. Makes it nice that you don't have to pay out of pocket right then.

I do my own taxes every year through the H & R block website....It depends on how complicated it is..I can do it for you..( won't charge much) it take 10-14 days to get your refund tho..

You don't want to go to  go to H&R block tho..my friend just went and paid over $300 and all she did was claim 2 kids..she doen't even own a home or anything..

we use taxact or turbo tax. there are a lot of payday loan type places around that give you a refund upfront based on an estimate on what you'd be getting back. And then they take your refund when it comes in. But they charge fees and such for it.. so i myself wouldn't use it. But i know people that have. I would just rather wait.

H&R Block was a nightmare for me last year... They tried to charge me over $200 to do simple refund paperwork.  It was ridiculous!  And, they get you in there with the ads saying it will be cheap, then you sit there while they do the forms (all of like 15 minutes), then they tell you in order for them to hit send it's like a million dollars.  They are HORRIBLE...in my opinion. :)

I've always used Turbo Tax online.  It's like $30 and so easy!  But, you do have to wait for it to be processed and all.

I could prob do it online because we don't own anything just have unemployment tax form and a couple w2 forms and one child to claim.  I just want my money cause we are super broke behind on bills
