Marion County Schools offer Summer Feeding Program

Marion County Public Schools once again offers its unconditional summer meal program to local students.  The Summer Food Service Program provides nutritionally-balanced meals without charge to any student who wants to eat. This year, from June 11 – August 2, the following 22 central kitchens are providing meals on various schedules to 16 satellite locations throughout Marion County:

·       Blessed Trinity

·       Boys & Girls Club

·       Dunnellon Elementary

·       Dunnellon High

·       East Marion Elementary

·       Evergreen Elementary

·       Forest High

·       Fort McCoy School

·       Greenway Elementary

·       Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks

·       Lake Weir High

·       Madison Street Academy

·       Maplewood Elementary

·       Marion Oaks Elementary

·       North Marion Middle

·       Saddlewood Elementary

·       Sparr Elementary

·       Vanguard High

·       West Port High

·       YMCA / Druid Hills Methodist

At most sites, no application or income information is necessary to qualify; children simply show up to eat.  Children 18 years and younger are eligible for a breakfast and lunch without charge, including sandwiches, cereal, juice, fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, and cookies.  Serving times vary by location.

The program is similar to the National School Lunch Program and offers nutritionally-balanced meals to needy children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or disability during the summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.  

Marion County Public Schools operates the Summer Food Service Program through reimbursements from Florida’s Department of Education and the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
